FAQs
Do you have a van or trailer?
No, I prefer to work inside the home, where the pet is most comfortable and the owner is free to watch me groom. A big part of the appeal of house call grooming is that you can see your baby at any time during the groom. You will never have to worry about how your furry friend is doing, and if anything unusual comes up you'll be the first to know.
I welcome questions and conversation, or I can put on my headphones and let you go about your business.
What? You groom inside my house?
Yep, I come right into your house! Your pet gets to stay in the security of their own home, where they are comfortable and they don't experience separation anxiety. House call is safer too, since your pet won't ever come in contact with strange dogs--the risk of communicable diseases is drastically reduced.
Humans love it too! You won't have to worry about traffic, drop off and pick up times, or carsick pets. You can stay and watch me groom, or go about your daily chores while I work. I also offer latch key service, for the busy client who would rather just let me handle everything while they're away.
Do I need to provide towels or shampoo?
Nope! I bring absolutely everything. All I need from you is a tub or sink, and a hard floored area near an outlet to set up my table.
What if my shower/sink doesn't have a spray nozzle?
No problem! I have a shower pump that can be used under any standard faucet.
Won't my house be full of hair?
Most of the hair clippings are collected as I work, and I vacuum the grooming area when finished. That said, hair does float and over time it can build up in surprising places! The good news is, I always bathe the dog before cutting any hair, so at least you know any hair you find is clean. I use drain covers to protect your sink or tub, so you don't have to worry about clogs.
Is it sanitary?
Yes! I disinfect all nearby surfaces after each appointment.
What kind of products do you use?
I use Best Shot Ultra shampoo and hydrating spray. It is an all natural line which provides excellent coat care and leaves your pet smelling fresh but not perfumey. Over time, dogs bathed regularly in Best Shot typically develop shinier coats and fewer tangles.
I flush out ears during the bath with ear solution. I do not use Q-tips or cotton balls inside the ears, as this can push debris further into the ear canal.
Do you require vaccinations?
I require proof of Rabies, Distemper, and Parvovirus shots within the last three years. If your pet has a condition that precludes vaccination, please provide a note from your veterinarian on official letterhead, dated within the last 12 months.
Do you use muzzles?
No, I do not. I have very few dogs that require safety gear; my goal is always to keep dogs' stress levels below the bite threshold. For the few who do need backup protection, I prefer to use Elizabethan collars (a.k.a. the Cone of Shame) and Kevlar gloves.
I do not use any restraints on cats. If they become too upset, I will stop the groom and discuss options for reducing kitty's stress level in the future.
How long does it take?
It varies, but most full grooms on small dogs take 60-90 minutes. Larger dogs, complicated styles, or thicker hair can take longer. I try to work as efficiently as possible, but I never rush! Some dogs need more time to feel comfortable.
I have more than one dog. Do I need to lock the others up while you groom?
Nope! I have many multi-dog households, and most dogs love to sit or lie nearby and watch their sibling being groomed. I am not bothered by pets near my area, and they usually figure out very quickly where they can hang out without being in the way.
What forms of payment do you take?
I accept all major credit cards through Square, as well as checks and cash. Please have exact change ready; I do not carry cash for safety reasons.
